Community Event To Celebrate Bluenose II

Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (Oct. 2007 - Feb. 2021)

Nova Scotians and visitors are invited to join the captain and crew of the Bluenose II on Saturday, July 11, to celebrate the schooner in her home port of Lunenburg.

"Having Bluenose II sailing again is what we've all been waiting for. We are ready to celebrate and we invite everyone to celebrate with us," said Rachel Bailey, Mayor of the Town of Lunenburg.

The public will be invited to tour the ship after the ship sails into Lunenburg Harbour around 11:15 a.m. and lowers its sails before moving into place dockside.

There will be a community-based event starting at 11:30 a.m. and will include games and activities for kids, along with local food and musicians. The event will coincide with the Lunenburg street festival and craft festival, meaning there will be many ways to experience the best that Lunenburg has to offer.

"The Bluenose means so many things to so many people. I know there will be a lot of full hearts on Saturday as the vessel cruises into Lunenburg Harbour under full sail," said Geoff MacLellan, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal. "The town of Lunenburg is leading a community celebration to which everyone across the province is invited."

The Bluenose II begins its public harbour tours on Sunday, July 19. The full tour schedule is now posted and reservations can be made online, at bluenose.novascotia.ca/schedule .
