Statement by Minister

Education and Early Childhood Development

The following is a statement by Karen Casey, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development.

The Nova Scotia Teachers Union is currently working its way through the ratification process for the tentative agreement reached on Nov. 12.

It is a negotiated settlement that has been recommended by the union to its members.

I respect the collective bargaining process. This process includes providing the union with the time to provide pertinent information to teachers. To that end, I will not get into details about the tentative agreement until the ratification vote on Dec. 1.

I am pleased that a tentative agreement has been reached and I am looking forward to a positive outcome. As we move forward, we will continue to collaborate with the union on ways to improve the education system, always keeping the best interests of students and teachers at the forefront of all discussions.
