First Teams Finalized for Canada Games

Men's softball, women's basketball and field hockey are among the first sports to make final selections of athletes who will represent Nova Scotia at the 2005 Canada Games in Regina, Sask., Aug. 6-20.

Members of the softball team were selected in September 2004. The 15 athletes are coached by Jeff Fraser of Dutch Settlement, Halifax Regional Municipality, and Jamie Wentworth of Enfield, Hants Co. Peter Smith of Lantz, Hants Co., is the team manager.

The women's basketball team was chosen on May 1. The 12 athletes will be coached by Jennifer Lloyd of Dartmouth and Scott Munro of Halifax. Darren Gerrior of Truro, manages the team.

The 15 members of the field hockey team were chosen on May 4. Their coaches are Michael Andrews and Sharon Rajaraman of Halifax. Their manager is Linda Bonin of Halifax.

Names of athletes who have been selected for Team Nova Scotia are available in the Meet the Team section of the team's website at ns.canadagames.ca/summer2005 .

The provincial team will have a maximum of 445 Nova Scotians: 357 athletes supported by 45 coaches, 20 managers, one boatman, and 18 volunteer mission staff. Four young artists will also complete in the National Artists' Program at the Games. Athletes will compete in 16 sports during the two weeks of the Games.
