Glube Cup Charity Hockey Tournament

Crown attorneys, criminal defence lawyers, judges and MLAs meet tonight to face off for the coveted Glube Cup – the ultimate prize of the second annual Glube Cup Charity Hockey Tournament, named in honour of retired Chief Justice Constance R. Glube.
This weekend (April 21-23) at the Halifax Metro Centre, courtroom and legislative battles are cast aside to see just who rules on the ice. Last year's winners - MLAs - will face formidable opposition from an increased number of legal eagle teams. This year Crown attorneys go from one team to two --federal Crown attorneys and provincial Crown attorneys. Criminal defence lawyers are now divided into a metro team and a county team. Judges remain at one team.
"I guess you could call it our answer to NHL expansion," said tournament organizer Frank Hoskins, Halifax Chief Crown attorney. "But it's all for fun and for a good cause. We want to take our spirit of collegiality and friendly competition and use it to help others."
A non-perishable food item or a cash donation to Feed Nova Scotia is the cost of admission.
Everybody is welcome. The tournament gets underway at 6 p.m. with MLAs and Defence (city) facing off. At 7:30 p.m. judges play federal Crown attorneys.
The schedule for Saturday, April 22, is:
-- city defence attorneys vs. provincial Crowns attorneys, 10
a.m.
-- judges vs. county defence attorneys, 11:15 a.m.
-- provincial Crown attorneys vs MLAs, 12:30 p.m.
-- federal Crown attorneys vs. county defence attorneys
-- fifth place game, 3 p.m.
The semi-finals start at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, April 23, with the championship game set for 1:15 p.m.
The Glube Cup will be awarded to the winner by former Chief Justice Glube.
