Minister Thanks Workers' Compensation Board Chair

Labour and Workforce Development Minister Mark Parent thanked outgoing Workers' Compensation Board chair Ray Ivany, today, Jan. 14, for his service to the board, and to employers and workers across the province.

Mr. Ivany, a former president and chief executive officer of Nova Scotia Community College, is returning to the education field as the new president of Acadia University in Wolfville. His resignation is effective Feb. 28.

"The board of directors and I will miss his guidance and vision, and he brought a lot of strengths to the table," said Mr. Parent. "We have every confidence that Acadia will benefit greatly from his leadership."

Mr. Ivany was appointed chair of the Workers' Compensation Board on May 15, 2007. During his tenure, Mr. Ivany led a strategic planning process that will outline the board's priorities for the next five years.

Chris Power, deputy-chair of the Workers' Compensation Board is the acting chair until Mr. Ivany's replacement is chosen.
