Nova Scotians will get a chance to cheer on Team Nova Scotia at the Scotian Gold Pep Rally in Halifax on Saturday, Jan. 22.

Sponsored by Scotian Gold, the event at Grand Parade Square begins at 2 p.m., featuring a performance by popular precision drummers, SQUID. Team Nova Scotia's two flag bearers will also be announced.

"We are extremely proud of our athletes and artists and are excited to watch them shine on home soil in a few weeks," said Premier Darrell Dexter. "The idea of being the host province during the Games has ignited a passion for Nova Scotia, which I'm sure will be the encouragement that drives our athletes."

Premier Dexter, Minister of Health and Wellness, Maureen MacDonald, Chef de Mission Frank Garner, Team Nova Scotia mission staff, athletes, family members, coaches, and managers will be in attendance at the pep rally.

"These young athletes and artists are a great example of what determination, commitment and drive can achieve," said Mr. Garner. "We welcome all Nova Scotians to join us as we celebrate with them this weekend."

Team Nova Scotia consists of more than 200 athletes and artists competing in 20 sports and various cultural events during the Halifax 2011 Canada Winter Games from Feb. 11-27.
