Liverpool Wins Bid to Host Junior Curling Championships

Liverpool will host the 2014 Canadian Junior Curling Championships.
The Canadian Curling Association announced the winning bid today, June 15.
"The 2014 Canadian Junior Curling Championships are an exciting opportunity to showcase our country's talented young athletes and promote Nova Scotia as a world-class destination," said Percy Paris, Minister of Economic and Rural Development and Tourism. "Major events like these help grow our economy and attract new visitors to our province. I congratulate Liverpool on this tremendous success."
Economic activity from the event is estimated at more than $3 million, including $1.4 million in new money to the Nova Scotia economy. Events Nova Scotia supported the Liverpool-area bid committee's submission.
"Major events play an important role in all regions of our province," said Scott Ferguson, president and CEO of Trade Centre Limited, which leads Events Nova Scotia. "We have enjoyed a great partnership with the bid committee and are pleased to have supported them in securing this event."
The event, which takes place over nine days in January 2014, will be held at the Queens Place Emera Centre. The finals will be broadcast on TSN.
