Delectable Nova Scotia lobster, homemade pies and rolls, and other local fare will be served up at the season's first Incredible Picnic today, Aug. 2, at Chestico Days in Port Hood.

A dozen events across the province are on the schedule for the 5th annual Incredible Picnics. They showcase locally grown and produced items like fruits and vegetables, meats, cheeses, breads and beverages.

"Nova Scotia's agriculture and seafood industries contribute a combined $2 billion in the province's economy and provide good jobs in rural areas," said Agriculture Minister John MacDonell. "The Incredible Picnics are a fun, tasty way to support these industries and celebrate the variety and quality of local food in Nova Scotia."

Some events are sit-down suppers while others are picnic style. People are encouraged to taste delicious local foods from vendors and enjoy live entertainment and children's activities.

The other picnics are at:

-- Windsor Farmers' Market, Aug. 11
-- Bonnyman's Tea House, Tatamagouche, Aug. 12
-- North Sydney County Exhibition, Aug 18
-- Halifax Seaport Farmers' Market, Aug. 19
-- Crazy Cob's Cornundrum Corn Maze, Masstown, Aug. 19
-- Musquodoboit Harbour Farmers' Market, Aug. 19
-- Wedgeport Tuna Tournament, Lower Wedgeport, Aug. 24
-- Growing Green Bridgewater Sustainability Festival, Aug. 25
-- Hubbards Barn and Community Park, Aug. 26
-- Meadowbrook Farm and Meat Market, Berwick, Sep. 2
-- Cape Breton Farmers' Market, Sydney River, Sep. 8
