Commission Seeks Public Input on Electoral Boundaries

The commission reviewing Nova Scotia's electoral boundaries will hold its second round of public meetings starting Tuesday, Aug. 7 in Port Hawkesbury.
The commission is seeking public comment on its revised interim report. The commission will consider these comments for its final report, due Aug. 31. All submissions will be viewed as public documents and may become part of the commission's published reports.
"We again look forward to hearing from a wide cross section of Nova Scotia voters, as we did during the first round of public consultation," said Teresa MacNeil, chair of the commission. "We want what we hear from Nova Scotians to be reflected in our final report, and to make sure our recommendations take all concerns into consideration."
Public meetings, from 6-8 p.m., are scheduled for:
-- Port Hawkesbury, Tuesday Aug. 7, Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre, 606 Reeves St.
-- Westville, Wednesday, Aug. 8, Westville Civic Centre, 2042 Queen St.
-- Sydney, Thursday, Aug. 9, Ukrainian Hall, 51 West St.
-- Halifax, Monday, Aug. 13, Atlantica Hotel Halifax, 1980 Robie St.
-- Yarmouth, Monday, Aug. 13, Mariners Centre, 31 Cottage St.
-- Bridgewater, Tuesday, Aug. 14, Best Western Plus Bridgewater Hotel and Convention Centre, 527 Highway 10, Exit 12
-- Church Point/Pointe-de-l'Église, Tuesday, Aug. 14, Université Ste. Anne, Gymnasium, 1695 Route 1
-- Dartmouth, Wednesday, August 15, Holiday Inn Halifax, Harbourview and Convention Centre, 101 Wyse Rd.
-- Annapolis Royal, Thursday, Aug. 16, Annapolis Royal Fire Hall, 5 Saint Anthony St.
French interpretation services will be provided at the meetings in Port Hawkesbury, Halifax, Yarmouth and Church Point/Pointe-de-l'Église.
Under the House of Assembly Act, an electoral boundary review is required after every 10-year census to reflect population shifts and to adjust electoral boundaries if necessary. Terms of reference were set by a select committee of the House of Assembly after consultation around the province.
