Nova Scotia's streets are safer and communities are stronger because of the dedicated men and women who serve as police officers across the province.

Their continuing commitment to helping make life better for families was recognized today, Sept. 25, by Justice Minister and Attorney General Ross Landry.

Mr. Landry presented 56 deserving police officers with Nova Scotia Police Long Service Awards.

"Whether they're enforcing speed limits in school zones to help keep students safe or helping prevent crime by being visible in our communities, our police force is always respectful and professional in their work," said Mr. Landry. "Law enforcement is one of the most challenging yet honourable and rewarding professions out there. I thank these officers for their many years of dedicated service keeping our communities safe."

The provincial award program recognizes police officers who have served in the province for 15 and 25 consecutive years. This is the fifth year for the program.

A list of the recipients is available at www.gov.ns.ca/just/Policing_Services/long_service_award.asp .
