Winners of Family Fishing Adventures Contest Announced

Fisheries and Aquaculture

Two elementary students are the winners of the Family Fishing Adventures contest put on by the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture and Outdoor Writers of Canada.

Contestants were required to write a story about a family fishing trip they went on and include a photo or original drawing.

The winner in the P-3 category is Danielle Gagne, a Grade 3 student from Ellershouse, Hants Co. The winner in the Grade 4-8 category is Bailee Nauss, a Grade 4 student from Tusket, Yarmouth Co. Each winner received a gift card from Canadian Tire, a hat, t-shirt and fishing equipment.

"Congratulations to the winners. Fishing is a wonderful way to spend time with family," said Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister Sterling Belliveau. "It's great to see young people enjoying the outdoors and contributing to the conservation of our environment."

Submissions were judged on:

  • what fishing means to them
  • their favourite thing about fishing
  • how their adventure contributed to conservation

"Recreational fishing is an activity that brings life-long enjoyment and satisfaction to all participants," said Duane Radford, president of Outdoor Writers of Canada. "It's wonderful to have children involved with fishing at such a young age."
