Accessing Government Services with 10-Digit Dialing

Internal Services (June 2014 - May 2019)

Three-digit numbers used for emergencies and other services will not be affected by the change to 10-digit dialing that comes into effect on Saturday, Aug. 23.

Callers will not need to dial 1 or the area code to access these provincial services:

  • 211, community and social services
  • 511, road and highway conditions
  • 811, non-emergency health information
  • 911, emergency police, fire and ambulance services

Calls to toll-free phone lines are also unaffected.

Internal Services Minister Labi Kousoulis said government is ready for the start of 10-digit dialing.

"Contact information for government programs and services is staying the same but callers will need to dial the area code after Aug. 23," said Mr. Kousoulis. "We've been working to ensure our IT applications, websites and phone systems are ready so Nova Scotians can continue to access services."
