Students Celebrate Stand Up Against Bullying Day

Students, teachers and school administrators across the province are wearing pink and speaking out against bullying and cyberbullying today, Sept. 11.

Since 2007, the province and education partners recognize the second Thursday in September as Stand Up Against Bullying Day.

"When bullying takes place, offline or online, it is always of concern. It is a societal issue that extends beyond the school ground and into many parts of our communities," said Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Karen Casey. "To reduce the effects of bullying we need to stand together, support each other, and say we will not accept this behaviour in our classrooms and our communities."

Students and parents who are involved in, or witness, bullying behaviour in schools can report it using the Online Reporting Form for Students and Parents. Since it was launched in November 2013, 81 students, parents and school staff have used it to report incidents of bullying.

Teachers, parents, students and community members can also report incidents of cyberbullying to CyberScan at http://cyberscan.novascotia.ca/ .
