Province Celebrates Duke Awareness Week

Education and Early Childhood Development

The 43rd Duke Awareness Week begins today, Oct. 19, celebrating students across the province who are making a difference in their community.

The week has young people, program participants, leaders, board members, parents and volunteers taking part in events that highlight great work youth are doing in their communities.

"Participants in the International Duke of Edinburgh's Award program are given the opportunity to step outside of their comfort zone and achieve personal goals for community service, skills, fitness," said Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Karen Casey. "I am pleased that so many Nova Scotia students continue to participate each year."

The International Duke of Edinburgh's Award program promotes community and national development, while participants learn the life skills that lead to personal growth and achievement. More than 4,100 young Nova Scotians, age 14 to 25, participate in the program each year.
