Tentative Agreement Reached With Civil Service

Public Service Commission

A tentative agreement has been reached today, Nov. 13, between government and the Nova Scotia Government Employees Union.

"I am pleased our meaningful discussions at the table have resulted in a tentative agreement that stays within our fiscal plan," said Premier Stephen McNeil. "We continue to encourage others to come to the table."

Details of the tentative agreement will not be released until the agreement is ratified by union members.

"I am pleased we have reached a deal with our valued civil servants. We were able to reach a tentative deal seven months after the contract expired and this brings stability in the Civil Service," said Labi Kousoulis, Minister of the Public Service Commission.

Negotiations began on Oct. 21. The parties met for five days.

The collective agreement represents approximately 7600 unionized civil servants.

The last agreement with civil servants expired on March 31.
