Government, Junior Achievement to Arm Students with More Information

Labour and Advanced Education (Jan. 2011 - Aug. 2021)

Government will work with Junior Achievement of Nova Scotia to deliver student assistance information to students across the province, starting in Grade 9.

"When our team visits high schools, students say they don't know much about student assistance, basic finances, or how they'll pay for school," said Labour and Advanced Education Minister Kelly Regan. "Arming students with the information they need will give them options, and help them make better, more well-informed decisions about their futures."

Junior Achievement Dollars with Sense, Economics for Success and Company Program participants will receive student assistance information, and Company Program students will learn about student assistance first-hand at their executive training sessions. The Department of Labour and Advanced Education will also award a $1,000 scholarship to a Company Program participant.

Government will provide $25,000 to Junior Achievement of Nova Scotia for the opportunity to reach more than 10,000 students across the province.

"Junior Achievement of Nova Scotia is thrilled to partner with the province to help prepare our students for a successful future," said Junior Achievement of Nova Scotia president and CEO Kristin Williams. "Together, we can inspire students to pursue post-secondary education, and decide to do so right here at home."

Junior Achievement of Nova Scotia provides hands-on learning in the classroom and through extra-curricular activities focused on financial literacy, workplace readiness and entrepreneurship.

Nova Scotia's student assistance program is one of the best in the country. Students can get thousands of dollars in provincial assistance through bursaries, loans, and grants. Eligible Nova Scotians who graduate from a Nova Scotia university can also have their entire provincial loan forgiven, saving them up to $15,000.
