Government Announces Site for New School

Education and Early Childhood Development

Families on the Eastern Shore are one step closer to a leading edge school with the announcement of the site for a new P-12 school in the area.

The school will replace Duncan MacMillan High School, Eastern Consolidated Elementary School, Lakefront Consolidated Elementary School, and Sheet Harbour Consolidated School. It will be built on the Duncan MacMillan High School site in Sheet Harbour. The site was submitted by the Halifax Regional School Board and approved by Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Karen Casey.

"Government is keeping its commitment to move forward with school capital projects to ensure students are learning in safe, modern and well-equipped environments," said Ms. Casey. "I am pleased that a new school will be built on the Eastern Shore that will serve their needs for years to come."

Now that the site has been selected, a school steering team will be established to work with the design team, school board and departments of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal and Education and Early Childhood Development during the planning and initial design phases of the project.
