Province Announces Fund to Celebrate Canada 150

Communities, Culture and Heritage (Jan. 2011 - Aug. 2021)

In 2017, Canadians across the country will mark the 150th anniversary of Confederation. Nova Scotia has launched the 150 Forward Fund to help communities and groups create programs and events to celebrate Canada's birthday.

The 150 Forward Fund is available to non-profit enterprises and co-operatives that want to create, promote and participate in local and regional events.

Events or programs will need to honour a significant Nova Scotian or achievement, celebrate our cultural identity and ethnic diversity, or promote innovation over the past 150 years.

Full program details are available at www.novascotia.ca/150 .

"Our goal is to help Nova Scotians celebrate Canada's 150th birthday and honour and remember our role in creating and shaping Confederation," said Tony Ince, Minister of Communities, Culture and Heritage. "We are celebrating our drive and innovation from yesterday, today and tomorrow.

"This significant event in Canada's history will be a time to reflect on our accomplishments in Nova Scotia and feel pride and optimism for our future as a country."

The province is making $4 million available over two years for Canada 150. Of that $4 million, the province previously announced a contribution of $1.5 million to Rendez-Vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta.

Nova Scotia is one of the first provinces to make provincial funding available.

"On Canada Day 2016, I encourage all Nova Scotians to think about our great province and our great country, and begin a conversation about how we celebrate and reflect on our achievements and share our collective optimism for the future," said Mr. Ince.
