Progress Continues on Bringing High-Speed Internet to More Rural Communities

Government continues to work to bring high-speed Internet service to more rural Nova Scotia communities.

A request for proposals was issued today, Aug. 15, to develop a strategy that will map assets, identify gaps and enhance infrastructure that connects the core Internet feed to the community level.

"This is another important step towards making sure Nova Scotians have access to better Internet service, and Nova Scotia businesses have the tools they need to compete globally," said Business Minister Mark Furey. "To do this the right way, we need to acquire the technical expertise necessary to develop a strategic and detailed long-term plan."

Government also continues to work with municipalities and community groups on local projects and solutions.

In July, government issued a request for information that asked service providers to bring forward solutions that can be put in place quickly. The result was strong, with 12 proposals submitted.

Government expects the project team to be in place this fall so recommendations can be ready by spring.
