FINANCE/TREASURY BOARD-Amendments to Clarify Retail Sales Markup Allocation

Government has amended regulations to provide clarity regarding the Retail Sales Markup Allocation for locally produced alcoholic beverages sold by manufacturers.

The Liquor Control Act gives the Nova Scotia Liquor Corp. (NSLC) the authority to set liquor pricing in Nova Scotia. The amended regulations provide clarity to industry regarding current practice for the Retail Sales Markup Allocation.

At NSLC outlets the difference between the retail price and the amount paid to producers for their product represents markup revenue for the NSLC.

At Nova Scotia breweries, distilleries and wineries that sell on their premises, the business owner retains the markup but is charged the Retail Sales Markup Allocation.
