Funding was announced today, Jan. 30, to support safety and security of seniors and help them remain independent in their community.

Business Minister Mark Furey, on behalf of Leo Glavine, Minister of Seniors, announced a Senior Safety Grant for Lunenburg County.

"Seniors are an asset to our communities," said Mr. Furey. "We will all thrive if community members can participate fully and contribute their ideas, skills and knowledge in a safe environment."

South Shore Safe Communities is receiving a $20,000 grant for the Lunenburg County Seniors Safety Program. This investment goes toward education sessions and home visits that encourage independence, address personal safety issues and promote crime prevention.

"This funding supports programs demonstrated to provide support and education to our seniors in a respectful and professional manner," said David Walker, chair, South Shore Safe Communities.
