Preserving Social Housing in Mulgrave Park

Housing Nova Scotia

Mulgrave Park residents will soon benefit from a $5 million investment to preserve social housing in their neighbourhood.

Halifax Chebucto MLA Joachim Stroink, on behalf of Joanne Bernard, Minister responsible for Housing Nova Scotia, and MP Andy Fillmore, on behalf of Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, made the announcement today, March 28.

The revitalization project at Mulgrave Park, a residential neighbourhood in north-end Halifax, includes repairs and upgrades to high-rise apartment exteriors, the renewal of buried heating pipes to reduce costly emergency repairs, and safety and environmental risk-management work, including the restoration of high-risk retaining walls.

“We’re pleased to work with our federal partner to make these capital improvements to Mulgrave Park and other provincially owned properties across Nova Scotia,” said Mr. Stroink. “Mulgrave Park is a vibrant community and its residents will benefit from these necessary upgrades and repairs.”

“Our government’s investment will help preserve one of Halifax’s most significant affordable housing developments,” said Mr. Fillmore. “Mulgrave Park not only provides a roof to families in need, but it also supports the social well-being of the entire community.”

Construction is expected to begin in late July and end in spring 2019.

Through the Investment in Affordable Housing agreement a total of $18.2 million will be invested in social housing in Nova Scotia. The province is partnering with the federal government to direct $5 million of these funds to the Mulgrave Park restoration.
