Five Nova Scotia companies and one New Brunswick company have been awarded the latest contracts for the Dartmouth General Hospital expansion and renovation.

Government awarded the contracts today, Aug. 14, as part of the QEII redevelopment project.

The companies are:

  • Darim Masonry Limited, Lower Sackville
  • RKO Steel Limited, Dartmouth
  • Southeast Drywall Limited, Dartmouth
  • Flynn Canada Limited, Dartmouth
  • McCarthy’s Roofing Limited, Dartmouth
  • Royal Door Limited, Moncton.

These contracts are for the construction of the exterior of the new additions including masonry, structural steel, metal cladding and roofing.

The total cost of these tenders is approximately $7 million. These contracts are the second of three construction service tenders for the Dartmouth General Hospital. The final construction tender package is expected to be issued in late fall.

Construction at Dartmouth General started in May and is expected to be complete in late 2021.

The expansion and renovations at the hospital will result in the addition of 48 beds on the fifth floor, as well as eight new operating rooms which will replace four existing suites. The work also includes extensive upgrades to outpatient and diagnostic imaging areas. This is in addition to renovations already underway on the third and fourth-floor inpatient wings to be completed this fall.

The QEII redevelopment includes projects at the QEII Health Sciences Centre’s Halifax Infirmary, Hants Community Hospital and other sites that will support the eventual closure of the Centennial and Victoria buildings in Halifax.
