EDUCATION--Francophone Students Succeeding in Reading and Writing
The majority of Grade 6 students attending schools in the Acadian
provincial school board -- Conseil scolaire acadien provincial --
are still performing well in reading and writing. The province's
2004 elementary literacy assessment shows positive results, with
84 per cent meeting expectations in reading and 65 per cent
meeting expectations in writing.

The board of directors of the Atlantic Provinces Special
Education Authority (APSEA) says that maintaining high-quality
services for the region's deaf, deaf-blind, hard of hearing,
blind, and visually impaired will be paramount as the
organization responds to an administrative review presented on
Feb. 1.

heading to Truro this weekend to help plan the next wave of

EDUCATION--High School Graduation Rates Among Best in Canada
More students graduate from high school in Nova Scotia than
almost any other province. A Statistics Canada study released
this week shows Nova Scotia's high school graduation rate was
considerably higher than the Canadian average and, at 81.1 per
cent, was among the top three in Canada.
