EDUCATION--$13 Million Renovation for Sir John A.
The wait is over for students and staff at Sir John A. Macdonald High School. Education Minister Jane Purves today announced a $13-million renovation and upgrade project for the Hubley school. The project will see students back in class on a normal schedule at the school at the end of the first semester in January 2003.

The Department of Education is taking extra precautions to ensure that drinking water is safe for students and staff in schools surrounding Sir John A. Macdonald High School in Hubley. Education Minister Jane Purves announced today, May 29, that 13 schools from St. Margaret's Bay to Herring Cove will be tested for naturally occurring radionuclides.

The assessment report on Sir John A. Macdonald High School in Hubley will be released on May 28 at a community meeting at Beechville-Lakeside Timberlea School in Timberlea. The meeting, scheduled for 8 p.m., will also address concerns raised about water quality at the school. Representatives from the departments of Health, Environment and Labour and Education, and outside consultants will be present.
