Rhodena Quarry Expansion Project

Description

This is to advise that on June 16, 2017, Zutphen Resources Inc. registered the Rhodena Quarry Expansion Project for environmental assessment, in accordance with Part IV of the Environment Act.

The purpose of the proposed undertaking is to expand an existing Rhodena Quarry located on two tracts of private land: PID 50193390 (no civic#, Rhodena Road, Queensville) and PID 50297316 (Parcel B, Creignish Mountain Road, Rhodena), Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. This Project encompasses a total proposed expansion area of 17 hectares (including a 4 hectare area for the current operating quarry). Current average production rate at the Rhodena Quarry is 40,000 to 50,000 meter tonnes of aggregate per year, and planned production rate of the Rhodena Quarry during expansion is approximately 150 meter tonnes per year. Pending approval, commencement of quarry expansion is planned for early 2018, with an anticipated quarry operational lifetime of 20 years.

Minister's Decision

On August 3, 2017 the Minister of Environment released a decision concerning this review. The Minister has decided to approve the undertaking in accordance with Section 13(1)b of the Environmental Assessment Regulations, pursuant to Part IV of the Environment Act. The undertaking has been approved subject to a number of conditions.
