Description of Organization:
Established in 1964, Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) is the voice of companies that insure the homes, cars and businesses of Canadians. IBC member companies provide the vast majority of the non-government general insurance sold in Canada. As the trade association for the general insurance industry, IBC’s role is to be active in the business environment on behalf of its members, forecasting and responding to issues that may arise, and anticipating opportunities to identify, shape and influence change in support of members’ business needs. IBC lobbies the federal and provincial governments to secure changes in public policy and improvements in the business-operating environment that will benefit insurance companies and, most importantly, their customers. It works on a number of fronts to increase public understanding of home, car and business insurance. Public understanding is also fostered in IBC’s four regional consumer centres, where trained personnel with many years of industry experience answer tens of thousands of consumer inquiries each year.

Description of Membership:
Full membership in IBC is open to P&C insurers licensed in Canada, including reinsurance companies and insurance subsidiaries of other financial institutions. Full members have the right to elect IBC's Board of Directors. Industry stakeholder membership in IBC is available to non-insurance companies with business relationships with the P&C insurance industry. Industry stakeholder members are non-voting members. The officers are: Celyeste Power, President & CEO; Mario Fiorino, VP, Legal & General Counsel; Gilles Calmels, SVP, Human Resources & Administration; Rishi Tibriwal, VP Finance & CFO; Heather Masterson, Chair, IBC Board of Directors, and Christian Fournier, Deputy Chair, IBC Board of Directors. The Board of Directors are: Sylvie Wright, Northbridge Financial Corporation; Nick Creatura, CNA; Tracey Garrard, Aviva Canada Inc., Christian Fournier (Deputy Chair), La Capitale Financial Group; Paul Johnstone, Chubb Group of Insurance Companies; Valerie Lavoie, Desjardins General Insurance Group Inc.; Rowan Saunders, Definity Insurance Company; Celyeste Power, IBC; Louis Gagnon, Intact Financial Corporation; Kathy Boychuk, Peace Hills General Insurance Company; Jolee Crosby, Swiss Re; Heather Masterson (Chair), Travelers Canada; James Russell, TD Insurance; Claus-Ulrich Kroll, Munich Reinsurance Company of Canada; London Bradley, Allstate Insurance Company of Canada; and Saad Mered, Zurich Canada.
