Description |
|
March of Dimes Canada's lobbying activity is related to programs and services for people with disabilities and stroke survivors. We are seeking funding to expand our programs and services to fill gaps for people with disabilities in Nova Scotia.
Late last year we communicated with the Minister of Seniors and Long Term Care, Hon. Barbara Adams, the Minister's Special Advisor, Jeffrey Brennan, and her office regarding funding for After Stroke to support stroke survivors in the province. In addition, we have communicated with the Minister of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage, Hon. Pat Dunn, his office, and Regional Manager Andrea Redmond regarding funding for Conductive Education to support children and youth with physical rehabilitation and education. We engaged with the NS Health Innovation Team in discussing a pilot of After Stroke in NS.
In the coming months, we may engage in activities similar to the above, and also communicate with Minister Adams and Minister of Community Services, Hon. Karla MacFarlane, regarding the Canada Disability Benefit (federal Bill C-22), asking the provincial government not to claw back any existing disability benefits from Nova Scotians who eventually receive this new federal income benefit, as well as discussing opportunities for an accessible home modification program in the province. |
