Christmas Tree Broker or Vendor/Producer Registration

Who Needs This Registration?
  Anyone who wants to broker, produce, or sell Christmas trees in Nova Scotia shall register with the Christmas Tree Council of Nova Scotia for the purpose of the collection of a levy.

Application Forms & Process:

Registration as a Vendor-Producer, Broker or both may be made in writing to Christmas Tree Council of Nova Scotia by mail/email. All applications are approved on receipt.

Levy forms are sent to Vendor-Producers and Brokers of record annually and are also available on Council's website (www.ctcns.com). Levy forms and payment are due February 1st of the year following production.

Expiry & Renewal:
This registration does not expire.

Price:
Registration is free. However, there is a levy of one percent of the roadside value of the Christmas trees.

Related Requirements:
Once the Christmas Tree Broker, Vendor or Producer is registered, they stay in the register. Each year they must record their status (which could be inactive).

Additional Information:
  1. The applicant must provide information to the Council concerning purchases of trees.

  2. A broker or a vendor may request that their levy be rebated.

  3. A broker is a person who purchases Christmas trees from a producer for resale to a person other than a consumer in Nova Scotia.

  4. Vendor-producer means a person who produces Christmas trees for sale to a consumer, retailer, or export market.
