It's Crunch Time:
Why are things taking so long?

Luckily, students no longer have to wait in line to submit loan information, but it still takes time for us to receive, process and return a Student Assistance assessment to you. We are working hard to be sure that if you applied early, you will have your money 7-10 days after classes start.

So why do things take so long?

  • We receive 22,000 applications each year, and most are for September start dates.
  • We receive and review a quarter-million document pages each year.
  • Right now, we’re taking several hundred phone calls every day.
  • Most of the time, delays happen when students don’t stay on top of their application. Pressing SUBMIT is just the very first step.

What can you do?

  • Apply as soon as the application opens each year in early May, even if your plans might change later.
  • Log in to your MyPATH account weekly and watch your email/junk mail folder for our notifications.
  • Remember that we can’t even start to review your file until your Tax Consent Form is in. We need your consent! Find it inside MyPATH.
  • Stay on top of your Action Items in MyPATH, and send in documents promptly.
  • Read our instructions carefully – don’t be that frustrated student who submits the wrong information three times. Yes, that happens.
  • Ask us questions about your file: By email inside MyPATH, or by phone: 18005658420.
  • Ask us general program information Questions: On Twitter or Facebook

Meanwhile, we are working as hard and fast as we can to get your loans and grants processed. We promise!
