Vital Statistics Appointment of Division Registrars Regulations

made under clauses 51(1)(b) and (p) of the
Vital Statistics Act

Citation
1 These regulations may be cited as the Vital Statistics Appointment of Division Registrars Regulations.

Division registrars - deaths
2 (1) Every person who holds

(a) a valid funeral director’s licence issued prior to July 1, 1999 by the Nova Scotia Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors; and

(b) a certificate of good standing issued by the Deputy Registrar General

is appointed as a division registrar for deaths.

(2) A person who holds a valid funeral director’s licence issued by the Nova Scotia Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors after July 1, 1999, may apply to the Deputy Registrar General for a certificate of good standing and, upon receipt of the certificate, is appointed as a division registrar for deaths.

3 (1) When, in the opinion of the Deputy Registrar General, the holder of a certificate of good standing issued pursuant to Section 2 has not complied with the provisions of the Act or regulations respecting the registration of deaths, the Deputy Registrar General may

(a) suspend the certificate of good standing for such period of time as the Deputy Registrar General sees fit; or

(b) withdraw the certificate of good standing.

(2) A person whose certificate of good standing has been withdrawn pursuant to clause (1)(b) may apply to the Deputy Registrar General for a new certificate no earlier than 1 year after the withdrawal, and shall present with the application a letter from the Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors recommending that the person be issued a new certificate.

Division registrars - births and stillbirths
4 (1) Every person who

(a) is employed as a nurse manager, health records technician, ward clerk or admitting clerk prior to July 1, 1999, in an accredited hospital or other accredited medical facility; and

(b) holds a certificate of good standing issued by the Deputy Registrar General

is appointed as a division registrar for births and stillbirths.

(2) A person who becomes employed as provided in clause 1(a) after July 1, 1999, may apply to the Deputy Registrar General for a certificate of good standing and, upon receipt of the certificate, is appointed as a division registrar for births and stillbirths.

5 (1) When, in the opinion of the Deputy Registrar General, the holder of a certificate of good standing issued pursuant to Section 4 has not complied with the provisions of the Act or regulations respecting the registration of births and stillbirths, the Deputy Registrar General may

(a) suspend the certificate of good standing for such period of time as the Deputy Registrar General sees fit; or

(b) withdraw the certificate of good standing.

(2) A person whose certificate of good standing has been withdrawn pursuant to clause (1)(b) may apply to the Deputy Registrar General for a new certificate no earlier than 1 year after the withdrawal, and shall present with the application a letter from the hospital or other medical facility at which the person is employed recommending that the person be issued a new certificate.
