Regulations - Wildlife Act - Chignecto Game Sanctuary Designation

The Governor in Council on the report and recommendation of the Minister of Lands and Forests dated the 26^th day of August, A. D. 1958, and pursuant to the provisions of Section 154 of the Revised Statutes, 1954, the Lands and Forests Act, is pleased to order and declare that the area described in the Order in Council dated the 15th day of September, A. D. 1944, shall no longer be a game sanctuary, and to revoke the Regulations, made by an Order in Council on the 15th day of September, A. D. 1944, for the control of the Chignecto Game Sanctuary and the protection of wildlife therein;The Governor in Council is further pleased to declare the following described area of the Province of Nova Scotia in the County of Cumberland to be a game sanctuary, the said area to be known as the Chignecto Game Sanctuary:

Beginning at an iron post bearing the number twenty and set at the point where the southerly boundary of the Francklin Manor grant so called is intersected by the western line of the Boars Back Road in the district of River Hebert;

Thence westwardly along the southerly boundary of the said Francklin Manor grant to an iron post numbered six and set at the northwestern corner of the Indian Reserve;

Thence southwardly along the western boundary of the said Reserve to an iron post number five set at the southwest corner thereof;

Thence by the magnet in the year nineteen hundred thirty-seven south eighty-six degrees fifteen minutes east six chains forty-two links to an iron post numbered four;

Thence south six degrees thirty minutes west twelve chains three links to an iron post numbered three;

Thence south eighty-eight degrees thirty minutes west twenty chains forty links to an iron post numbered two;

Thence south seven degrees thirty minutes west sixty chains eighty-four links to an iron post numbered one;

Thence north fifty-one degrees eight minutes west twenty chains ninety-nine links to an iron post numbered sixteen;

Thence south forty-eight degrees fifty-five minutes west six chains seventy-seven links to aniron post numbered fifteen set on the northerly line of the Sand River Road;

Thence crossing the said road and running westwardly along the southerly line thereof to an iron post numbered fifty-one set at the northwest corner of a one-hundred-ten-acre lot granted by the Crown to William Harrison;

Thence south six degrees west fifty-one chains fifty-three links to an iron post numbered fifty-two;

Thence north eighty-five degrees forty minutes west one hundred sixty-two chains ninety-three links to an iron post numbered fifty-three set on the easterly bank of the brook draining Welton Lake;

Thence southwestwardly along the southeasterly bank of the said brook and the easterly margin of Welton Lake to a point bearing south fifty-six degrees fifty-two minutes east from an iron post numbered sixty-four set at the point where the westerly margin of the said lake is intersected by the Jenks base line so called;

Thence crossing said Welton Lake to iron post numbered sixty-four;

Thence northwestwardly along the said base line one hundred eighty-one chains twenty-three links to an iron post numbered sixty-three;

Thence north four degrees twenty-one minutes east sixteen chains four links to an iron post numbered sixty-two;

Thence south eighty-five degrees thirty-nine minutes east nineteen chains fifty-three links to an iron post numbered sixty-one;

Thence north six degrees fifty-one minutes east one hundred two chains ten links to an iron post numbered sixty;

Thence south eighty-seven degrees thirty-nine minutes east twelve chains twenty links to an iron post numbered fifty-nine;

Thence north three degrees ten minutes east fifty-one chains ninety-nine links to an iron post numbered fifty-eight;

Thence north eighty-seven degrees forty-five minutes west forty chains five links to a post and stones numbered C-59;

Thence north sixty-seven degrees fifty-five minutes west one hundred five chains fifteen links or to a point on the southern line of the old Sand River Road;

Thence northwesterly along the said southern side of the old Sand River Road to its intersection with the westerly bank of the Shulie River;

Thence northwardly along the said westerly bank to an iron post bearing south seventy-two degrees west from the most easterly angle of the one hundred twelve acre lot granted by the Crown to Joseph Read;

Thence north seventy-two degrees east five hundred seventeen chains twenty-four links to the most easterly angle of the said Joseph Read lot;

Thence south forty-one degrees east ten chains fifty-three links;

Thence north forty-eight degrees east seventeen chains five links;

Thence south forty-three degrees forty-five minutes east thirty-three chains seventeen links;

Thence south forty-seven degrees forty-five minutes west thirty-two chains sixty-one links to the most westerly corner of the one hundred thirty-six acre lot granted by the Crown to Robert A. Christie;

Thence south forty-two degrees fifteen minutes east thirty chains thirty-nine links to an iron post numbered eighty-five;

Thence south forty-two degrees east eighteen chains fourteen links to an iron post numbered eighty-six;

Thence north forty-eight degrees east seven chains two links to an iron post numbered eighty- seven;

Thence south forty-two degrees east ten chains nine links to an iron post numbered eighty-eight;

Thence north forty-eight degrees east fifteen chains thirty-eight links to an iron post numbered eighty-nine;

Thence south forty-two degrees east six chains forty-seven links to an iron post numbered ninety;

Thence north forty-eight degrees east twenty chains fifty links to an iron post numbered ninety- one;

Thence south forty-two degrees east ten chains thirty links to an iron post numbered ninety-two;

Thence south sixty-three degrees forty-three minutes east fifty-six chains forty-four links to an iron post numbered eighty;

Thence south twenty-six degrees seventeen minutes west sixty-five chains fifty-eight links to the intersection of the westerly continuation of the Smith Rector division line so called;

Thence south sixty-five degrees thirty-two minutes east along the said westerly continuation one hundred five chains sixty links to the Boars Back Road;

Thence south sixty-three degrees fifty-seven minutes east along the said Smith Rector division line and the easterly prolongation thereof one hundred twenty-seven chains six links;

Thence south sixty-four degrees fifty-two minutes east twenty-three chains to iron post numbered forty-two set on the eastern bank of Mile Brook;

Thence south sixty-four degrees thirty-five minutes east sixty-two chains fifty-four links to an iron post numbered forty-three set on the eastern boundary of the Francklin Manor grant hereinbefore referred to;

Thence continuing on the same course south sixty-four degrees thirty-five minutes east seventy- three chains seven links to the western boundary of the ninety-one acre lot granted by the Crown to Benjamin Young;

Thence north twenty-five degrees east five chains twenty-one links to an iron post numbered one hundred ten;

Thence south eighty-three degrees east twenty-five chains seventy-two links to an iron post numbered one hundred eleven;

Thence south sixty-four degrees thirty-five minutes east sixty-six chains thirty-eight links to the westerly boundary of the Southampton lots;

Thence approximately south thirty-eight degrees west along the said western boundary to a point bearing south sixty-three degrees thirty minutes east from the iron post numbered thirty-four set on the eastern boundary of the five hundred acre lot granted to Hugh Logan;

Thence north sixty three degrees thirty minutes west twenty chains ninety-three links to the iron post numbered thirty-four;

Thence north six degrees twenty-two minutes east seven chains forty-six links to the post numbered thirty-three set at the northeast corner of the Hugh Logan lot hereinbefore referred to;

Thence north eighty-three degrees thirty-eight minutes west one hundred three chains to the easterly boundary of the Francklin Manor grant;

Thence south twenty-seven degrees west thirty-seven chains twelve links along said easterly boundary to the post numbered twenty-nine set on the northerly bank of the Fish Weir Brook;

Thence crossing the said brook and following the southerly bank thereof in a westerly direction to the easterly bank of the River Hebert;

Thence southwardly following the said easterly bank to point bearing north twenty-seven degrees east from an iron post numbered twenty-three standing on the western boundary of a flowage and meadow lot;

Thence south twenty-seven degrees west crossing the said ~~Rover~~ [River] Hebert to the iron post numbered twenty-three;

Thence south twenty-seven degrees west three chains three links to an iron post numbered twenty-two;

Thence north sixty-three degrees west sixteen chains fifty links to the western line of the Boars Back Road;

Thence southwardly along the said western line fifty-three chains eighty links or to the iron post numbered twenty at the point of beginning, containing eighty-five square miles be the same more or less.

The Governor in Council is further pleased to make the following regulations for the control of the Chignecto Game Sanctuary and the protection of wild life therein:
