Legacy Retention: Forestry Regulations

DVD ImageDVD Video (22 mins)

Leaving clumps of trees on a harvest site is a common practice across North America and recently became the law in Nova Scotia. Implemented properly, it can retain valuable ecological features across managed forest landscapes.

A DVD recently released by the Nova Scotia Department of Lands and Forestry, explains why clumps are required, how to find the best clump locations and the details of the new forestry regulations. Titled Legacy Retention Forestry Regulations, the video identifies the biodiversity features of the forest that are most vulnerable to being lost due to forest harvesting. It explains how clumps will provide habitat and landscape connectivity over the next forest rotation.
