NSBI Board of Directors Names Laurel Broten President, CEO
Nova Scotia Business Inc. board of directors announced today, Jan. 14, Laurel Broten has been appointed president and CEO of NSBI.
"Laurel is committed to a stronger Nova Scotia. As a leader, she has expertise in international trade policies, corporate law and economic development," said Janice Stairs, NSBI board chair. "We welcome Laurel and we look forward to working with her."
Ms. Broten has held a number of leadership roles and has worked in the public and private sectors. She has extensive experience in economic development and job creation, with a focus on creative industries, food processing, as well as green energy and clean tech. During her time as a member of the Ontario cabinet, she held various portfolios and provided oversight for government investments in business support programs, tax incentives, and economic development support to the private sector.
"I am excited to take on this role and I look forward to leading NSBI's talented team as we move forward, with partners, to help Nova Scotia businesses grow both domestically and internationally, and to attract new investment to our province," said Ms. Broten.
"On behalf of the board, I would like to express our appreciation to Ron Smith for taking on the role of interim CEO," said Ms. Stairs. "Ron has provided strong leadership for the organization and has been instrumental during a time of transition and change. Ron will continue to be a member of our board."
Ms. Broten's appointment is effective Jan. 26.
