Summit Brings Together Major Immigration Partners

Immigration (Jan. 2005 - Feb. 2021)

Businesses, community leaders, newcomers, municipal officials, post-secondary institutions, and settlement partners come together in Halifax today, Oct. 26, to discuss ways to enhance immigration to Nova Scotia.

"We've done a lot to improve immigration over the past two years, from introducing four new immigration streams and nearly doubling our nomination cap to improving settlement services, and we know more needs to be done," said Immigration Minister Lena Metlege Diab. "This summit is an opportunity to get all the key players in the room to celebrate our successes and discuss how communities across Nova Scotia are poised to make further advances."

The summit follows a series of eight community conversations across the province this past summer with targeted stakeholders to gather information about challenges and opportunities for immigration, including community-led initiatives.

The summit is hosted by Ms. Diab along with Wadih Fares and Colin Dodds, co-chairs of the Premier's Immigration Advisory Council. It includes a presentation on the results of the community conversations as well as panels on immigration from the business and post-secondary institution perspective.
