Message from the Lieutenant Governor to Assembly, stating that in answer to Assembly's memorial asking suspension of Quit-rents, the King will suspend any demand for Quit Rents now due or that may hereafter be due in respect of lands held of His Majesty in Nova Scotia on condition that some suitable provision be made for the clergy of the Established Church in this colony; And that such suspension will take place immediately on the completion of Measures on the part of the Provincial Legislature providing an annual allowance for such clergy. Rough draft of address of Assembly to Lieutenant Governor in answer to his message re: quit-rents (in No. 34). Assembly cannot comply with the King's conditions because the inhabitants have always been free from taxation for a state church, and because the majority of Nova Scotians would object to the Assembly providing for the support of the Anglican church , whose doctrines they do not profess. The collection of quit-rents would be a great burden to the inhabitants.

Services are necessary but means provided by Assembly inadequate. Committee cannot recommend larger sum than £28,000. Signed.
