"Evergreens"

Harriet James was a 67-year old widow when the census enumerator visited her house in 1891. Her daughters Harriet and Sarah resided with their mother. The Census of 1891 records “Evergreen” as a fifteen-room two storey wood frame house.

Noted folklorist Dr. Helen Creighton later lived here and her residence is now the Dartmouth Heritage Museum, 26 Newcastle Street. The original photograph was on the mantle at the time of the 1917 Halifax Explosion. The picture was studded with flying glass.
