'An East Coast Port': Halifax in Wartime, 1939-1945

Punting on the Egg Pond, Halifax Central Commons

The Egg Pond was built in 1888. In 1959, the Junior League provided floodlights so that young people could skate on it. A Mail-Star editorial, 1970, objected to automobiles parked around the Egg Pond in winter and said people were "too lazy to walk."
