MacIntosh, in the City Hall, Staff Captain Byers was placed over the Investigation Committee and was immediately assisted by Brigadier Bettridge, of Toronto. Later in the day Major Barr, of St. John, arrived and went thoroughly into the organization of an investigating committee. Forms were printed, food and clothing orders, etc., were issued, hundreds of homes were visited daily by school teachers and students from the Academy and other institutions in the City. These organizers tramped through snow and storm to find out the needs of the people. Commissioner and Mrs. Richards, head of the Salvation Army for Canada East, accompanied by his Chief Secretary, Colonel McMillan, also Colonel Hargraves, the Social Secretary, and Brigadier Miller, Property Secretary, arrived in the City on Saturday. The Commissioner instructed Major Crichton to bring in a staff of Field Officers from the Division, which was immediately done. Among them were Adjutant Cavender, of Sydney Mines; Adjutant Spearing, North Sydney; Ensign Pitcher, New Glasgow; Ensign Laing, Truro: Captain Bosher, Sydney; Captain Mont Liver, Captain Crowe and Lieutenant Brister, Shelburne; Captain Rix, Captain Windsor; Captain Bramley, Bridge-Lyons and Lieutenant Stevens, bellton; Mrs. Adjutant Hurd and water; Ensign ham, Moncton; Lieutenant Millard, Parrsboro; Captain Jones, Trenton: Lieutenant Thornhill, Kentville; Captain Sibbick, Clarke's Harbor; Captain Bexton and Lieutenant Bowering, Adjutant Green, St. John; Captain Pride, London, Ont.; Brigadier and Mrs. Bettridge, Captain Webber, Laurie, Johnston, Pringle and Sherwood of the Toronto Headquarters Staff, and about fifteen of the staff of officers in the City.
