A large smokestack is seen to the left with two buildings behind it. To the right, there are railroad cars and two other buildings. The tall steel structure in the background is the head frame. This was erected over the shaft to support the hoisting wheel from which the cages are raised and lowered, carrying coal, men or materials into the mine.
