Le Bluenose, symbole canadien

Les dirigeants du G-7 sur le front de mer de Halifax

As Halifax prepared to host the G-7 Economic Summit in 1995, interest developed in refurbishing Bluenose II to extend its life as a sailing vessel. This interest led to the establishment of a volunteer organization, the Bluenose II Preservation Trust Society. The Society managed the restoration of Bluenose II, and became her operator under contract with the Province of Nova Scotia. The G-7 leaders took a cruise, 16 June 1995, on the Bluenose II which is seen in the background. From left to right are European Union President Jacques Santer, Japanese Prime Minister Tomiichi Murayama, German Chancellor Helmut Kohl, U.S. President Bill Clinton, Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien, French President Jacques Chirac, British Prime Minister John Major and Italian Prime Minister Lamberto Dini.
