'An East Coast Port': Halifax in Wartime, 1939-1945

Dutch cruiser Sumatra, Halifax harbour which brought Princess Juliana of the Netherlands and her children to Canada

The Halifax Mail's headlines, 11 June 1940, p.1, announced that "Princess Juliana and Children Land in Halifax" via Dutch warship. Lord Athlone, the new Governor-General of Canada, issued the invitation and Prime Minister Mackenzie King announced the Princess and her entourage arrived safely at Halifax from England.
