'An East Coast Port': Halifax in Wartime, 1939-1945

R.M.S Queen Elizabeth entering at Halifax with returning troops

Thousands of Haligonians sought vantage points along the Halifax waterfront as the giant troopship Queen Elizabeth entered Halifax Harbour with 12,400 passengers. It was the ship's second trip on the Halifax-Southampton repatriation run. More than 180,000 Canadian troops had already been repatriated since V-E Day.
