Within the Nova Scotia Archives Library, the Genealogy / Reference Collection (2100 titles) includes our most heavily-used family, community and county-history items, as well as a variety of published genealogical resources and general Nova Scotian studies. These front-line research materials are shelved in the Self-Service area of the Microfilm Reading Room at the Archives — where researchers can help themselves during all open hours.
The entire Genealogy / Reference Collection is described in the online library catalogue; details can be retrieved either from a general search, or via a separate search carried out on the Genealogy / Reference Collection only, by using the Search Box above. Self-Service items are clearly identified in each description, next to the call number. Searching the Genealogy / Reference Collection separately enables you to identify immediately what's available in Self-Service (which consequently won't need a Request Slip or retrieval from closed stacks), make a note of the call number, and plan your next visit to the Archives.
