to grant it, which naturally induced me to suppose that there could be then no existing claim upon it. But I have no hesitation in saying that if upon enquiry a well founded claim under the Authority of Government shall be established upon the Land Granted to me I shall cheerfully relinguish such parts as may enable Government to [fulfil] such engagements.

I return the papers which you enclosed to me and beg you will accept of my thanks for the opportunity you have afforded me of perusing them.
