To His Excellency Sir Gaspard Le Marchand Lieutenant Governor &c. &c. &c
May it please you Excellency
As I shall probably leave town on Monday , and may not have an opportunity of communicating with your Excellency respecting the Petition handed you by Dr. [Twining?] and myself on the part of the Indians, I beg to say that in presenting it I simply fulfilled a promise to the Indians that I would myself put it into the Governors hands and use all my influence to get it forwarded.

It may be proper for me to state that I cannot vouch for the truth of the statements contained in the Petition, tho I fear they are all too true. I have read the Petition publickly at Charlottetown , St. John N. B. Frederickton and many
