Spoils of War: Privateering in Nova Scotia

Annapolis man runs away to sea

The lure of adventure at sea carried many young men into privateering, — in this case, Asarelab Morse Harris, an eighteen-year-old, whose father was looking for him. The folk song Barrett’s Privateers implies that their fate was bleak. But those who have studied privateering insist that this was a job where success outweighed failure.
