Sable Island October 29th 1809

Sir
This day assisd the Schooner Swan Jacob Conrod Master, with Mr. Morris & family, & [illegible] for the Island. The invoice of every article landed you have here inclosd - & which were on the Island before the inventory of the Schooner Swan.
I am very sorry to inform you that Mr. J.R. Morris died, a few hours after he landed on the Island. Fortunately his [illegible] was with him at the time & had returned with his mother & family to C. Harbour with Conrod. In consequence of which I [illegible] take charge of the Island until spring & such was my utmost promise to render your honour every satisfaction. There is at present with me on the Island.

Before [Mr. J. Morris?] departed this life he expressed a desire to send the black boy off the Island [illegible] I thought it prudent to retain him as we shud be [illegible] handed without him & particularly as he inclines to be more active than he has been [illegible] - every exertion that he made in killing the seal which was the [illegible] of Mr. Morris
Than is a [illegible] of work on the Island one ton of seal oil - & one cask of seal skins in good order for shipping.


Informing them of the death of James Morris the Superintendent of the Establishment at Sable Island.
