Halifax 22.d Jany 1844

Sir,

We have the honor to enclose, herewith, for the information of His Excellency the Lieut Governor, a report from Mr Joseph Darby, the superintendent of Sable Island, relative to the conduct of the crew of American Fishing vessels during the past year. The Report is accompanied by the affidavits of several men, belonging to the Establishment.

We beg to remark that the visits of American vessels for the purpose of fishing near the Island, are becoming every year more frequent.

The Schooner "Sisters" having been found not to possess the qualities, requisite for the various services, in which she has been employed, we have it in contemplation, should it meet the approbation of His Excellency, to dispose of her, and to build or purchase another more efficient vessel. The funds, at the disposal of the commissioners, are sufficiently ample to justify this expenditure.

We have the honor to be
Sir
your most obedient servants
