Halifax
24th April 1844

Sir,

We have the honor to receive your letter of the 22.d ins.t conveying to us the request of His Excellency the Lieut Governor that we should undertake the superintendance of the outfit for the protection of the Fisheries, for which service the Legislature has granted the sum of £500.

We have accordingly taken the necessary preliminary steps, by causing advertisements to be inserted in the newspaper in Halifax, Yarmouth, and Sydney, stating that Tenders would be received at the Treasury Office, until the 9th [prose.ce?] for the hire of a vessel and crew agreeably to instructions, and we beg that you will assure His Excellency of our intention to use all proper economy in the expenditure of the sum granted for this service, with the management of which, His Excellency has been pleased to hone us and that we will be careful that the whole expense
